Manifesting My Nest

Join me today for my musings around the process I used to create the home that I live in. I call it my nest.

It combines all the processes and thoughts I’ve shared with you to date as well as a little on the Law of Attraction and how I used that as well.

Hello, and welcome to my musings.

Today I'm going to do something a little bit different. I want to tell you the story about how I came to live in the home that I'm living in now that I created. I was sitting at my desk the other day and was looking at these two little ornaments that I purchased as little tokens of what I wanted to build, and it reminded me of the story.

So, I thought I would share it with you. Back in 2007, I knew that I wanted to build a new home. I had sold my old home and had a little bit of a profit, not a ton, but I knew that I wanted a new home, my little nest. And I had ideas of features that I wanted. For instance, I wanted to be close to our town, but not in it. I wanted to be in the woods. I wanted rock walls. I wanted a stream or water source of some sort. I wanted a field, and I wanted a dirt road.

Those were the thoughts that were going through my head. So, at the time, I did what I knew to do. I came across two little log cabin ornaments at JC Penney's, and I bought them, and I just kept them around. And then I started looking around at house plans. Thinking about what I would love in my new home. I just started dreaming about that. In fact, I just came across yesterday, I was kind of hoeing out some stuff, and I came across my binder where I had pictures of the loft that I liked, a wood stove in a living room, and I decided I wanted two bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open concept, living room and kitchen. And that just kind of percolated in there. I didn't know what to do next, but I knew very clearly what I wanted. I looked into construction loans, and it felt like such a daunting process.

So as I was pondering it, I decided, well, I could purchase a piece of land. I could afford a payment on a piece of land. So, I went to a broker and I said, this is what I'm looking for. And he gave me three property listings in three different towns. And two of them, I didn't even go and look at them. The third one I thought, I want to go look at this. It's in the town that my dad grew up in, where I spent all my life visiting my grandmother. So, I was familiar with it, and it was even on the road that we took to get to my grandmother's camp. So that felt familiar. And I went and looked at the land and I was like, oh my gosh. It had a little fieldy area. It had five acres of woods, had a rock wall.

It had what I call a stream, my brother calls a seasonal runoff, but most of the year it's running, so I call it my stream. It was on a dirt road in the woods, just about 15 minutes from the next town where all the shopping and such is. So, I took out a loan and purchased the land, and that's where I just kept trusting the next step.  I didn't know how I was going to do it, but I just kept going.

I had to have a soil test in order to purchase the land. And when I contacted the person who did it, they said, do you want a soil test or a septic design? And I thought, well, I'm going to be building a house and I'm going to need a septic design. It was probably $300 more to do that, but I thought, no, I'm, I'm just going to do it then I'll be prepared when I can build the house.

So I had a septic design done and I sat with that and I kept picturing what I wanted. I came across a couple of model homes. There was a bigger name place in a town that had a model home, and you could go through them and build your home, but it was very expensive. And then I came across these other two little model homes, the log cabins that were with a smaller company, kind of like a family-owned company. They had the same sort of deal that if you went through them, that they could help you be the contractor and find all the subs and the contractors and the plumbers and electricians in the masons, et cetera. So, I held onto that information.

I still didn't want to get a construction loan, but I had a family member who said, you know, I could loan you the money to build the house if you could then refinance and take out a mortgage and pay me back. I went to the bank to talk to them about this, and they said that would work. And I was off to the races.

Then I connected with the building supply company. I talked with them about their model homes and what I wanted, and the person I worked with built up the plans or created the plans for my home. It was exactly the way I wanted it laid out.

We went to my land, and we figured out where we would put the home, and then we were off. That was the Fall of 2008. And it was just such a miraculous process. It was kind of funny. We got the slab poured in November and everything laid out the way it should be and then it snowed. We couldn't get the contractors until January and it was so funny because they started building my home in January and they literally had to come in with a bucket loader to clean out where the driveway was going to be and snow blow off the cement pad for the house. I thought that was hilarious.

From then on, every day on my way home from work, I would stop by my house as it was being created. I spent my weekends at Home Depot picking out light fixtures and sinks, and I worked with my contracting person about cupboards and countertops and floors, etc.

And in April of 2009, I was able to move into my home and it was exactly what I wanted. Ooh, it makes me kind of choked up to think about it. I've been here ever since, and I sit in every room in this house, and I think I picked out the lights and the style and the floor and where the outlets will go, and the bathroom and the wainscoting and the medicine cabinet and it was just such a miracle.

What I reflect on as I'm sitting here talking to you about this is that I just, I didn't really know how it would happen, but I knew it's what I would love to have in my life. It's what I truly wanted and it's kind of like what I've talked about in other musings, that we don't have to know how things are going to work out in our lives. We just have to know what we want or have an inkling and then take the next step as it bubbles up inside of us and that's what I did with every step of building this house. And it, it's just, it feels miraculous, but it's really the way life works. It's really the way we are meant to travel this path in our human form is to kind of know what we want to remember, that we're supported, and we have help from the other side, above, heaven, whatever you want to call it, our higher selves, that we're not alone here and that everything is meant to work out in a way that is best for us, for our highest and best good and the highest and best good of all. That's always kind of my prayer. And so that is my story. I just felt so moved to share that with you today.

There's so much talk, especially in the new year, of the law of attraction and manifestation and I believe in all of that, and I believe in so much more. Um, I love scripting. I love list making. It's funny, I came across a, a notebook and as I was flipping through it, and I came across a list of all the features I wanted in my new home and the land that I wanted to purchase. And I literally had to look at the date on it to see if I had written that list before I found my land, or if it was a list of what I wanted on my land and I, I wrote it before I found my land and it was everything I wanted. It was five acres in the woods with a little fieldy area, with a stream, with rock walls on a dirt road close to the bigger town, but not in it.

There's power in all of this. There's power in our words. There's power in our intentions, there's power in our desires. So, I guess I'm going to try to wrap this up for the second time. That's the story of how I came to live in the home that I'm living in now, and how I love it so much. I hope you have a beautiful, beautiful day.

And remember as always, that true peace is always just one breath away.
